How to compare it

Screen type

UST needs a lenticular (Fresnel-like) UST-ALR screen, which accepts light from steeply below and rejects light from above. A long-throw ALR is a different, angular-reflective design. Mix them up and the image fails.

Marketing traps

  • Screen type: 'ALR' alone doesn't say which geometry it's built for. An UST-ALR screen used with a ceiling-mounted long-throw projector is badly dim.
Deep cut

Screen type. Acoustically transparent screens (woven or perforated) lose some gain and can moiré with the pixel grid. Woven weaves are usually tilted slightly for that reason.
